L.A. Theatre Works' Lucy Loves Desi: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Sitcom

The holiday season may be behind us, but there’s plenty to look forward to in 2023! The new year means new and exciting performances at the Hylton Center, starting with an evening of hilarious, high-flying pandemonium with the zany acrobats of Machine de Cirque (2/4 & 2/5). Next, don’t miss the Hylton debut of Mark Morris Dance Group and Music Ensemble (2/11) in Pepperland. Created by legendary choreographer Mark Morris, this evening-length ode to The Beatles is set to new arrangements of familiar songs from The Beatles’ album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Concluding February’s Hylton Presents performances is L.A. Theatre Works’ radio-style production Lucy Loves Desi: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Sitcom (2/26). Enjoy a charming behind-the-scenes look at one of America’s best-loved TV shows of all time.

Looking for a fun indoor excursion during the cold months that the entire family will enjoy? The Hylton Family Series continues in February with Llama Llama Live (2/12) by Bay Area Children’s Theatre. This clever, imaginative, and heartwarming musical based on the beloved children’s book series by Anna Dewdney and Netflix TV series by the same name, will have the whole family in stitches! The fun doesn’t stop there thoughwear your favorite pajamas to the performance and join us for pre-performance activities from 12 to 12:45 p.m. and 3 to 3:45 p.m., including a family storytime in the Jacquemin Family Foundation Rehearsal Room!

As the temperature drops outside, Hylton Center Artist-in-Residence and two-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience (2/25) heat up the American Roots Series. Savor the soulful, rootsy sound born in South Louisiana by one of the most respected and accomplished artists in American roots music today. Simien, an 8th generation Louisiana Creole, performs two shows in the intimate Gregory Family Theater with his band, the Zydeco Experience. As a Hylton Center Artist-in-Residence, Simien will also work with the community through classes and workshops during the week leading up to his February 25 performance—just in time for Mardi Gras!
