Patricia Underwood’s Signs & Symbols

If you are a fan of the visual arts, be sure to stop by the Hylton Center’s Buchanan Partners Art Gallery for a diverse offering of three captivating spring 2023 exhibitions by regional artists.

The 11th Annual Prince William County Public Schools Student Exhibition will be on view January 10 through February 18. Featuring expressive and original works of art, this student artwork from Prince William County Public Schools lets the creative talents of students from elementary to high school shine. Next, explore Eric Garner’s two most recent works, Text Grids (2021 – 2022) and Collages (2018 – 2021) in Multiple Repeat Mistakes (2/21 –  4/15). The former seeks to replicate and comment on the kind of informational overload encountered on the internet, where the autonomy and relevance of any given topic is polluted and distorted. Collages is a work comprising the artist’s small daily drawings, which together seem to reveal a pictorial abyss of raw data, undergirding and imprinting on everyday life in an advanced society.

Closing out the Hylton Center’s spring exhibitions is Patricia Underwood’s Signs & Symbols (4/18 – 6/10), featuring a selection of the mixed-media artist and printmaker’s recent work. Underwood’s art is defined by the subtle and sophisticated use of materials and abstract forms to evoke spiritual, linguistic, and natural phenomena.

Buchanan Partners Art Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and two hours before each performance. Visit our website for more information about upcoming gallery exhibitions.
