The start of a new school year also means new Hylton Center Education Initiative programmingAfter two seasons of a pandemic-related hiatus, in-person field trip performances return, and the Hylton Center eagerly and safely welcomes students and teachers back. The Education Initiative continues to build upon recent programming, including activities with Artists-in-Residence, masterclasses, and virtual field trips developed over the past two years. This year we will host field trip performances with Hylton Presents and American Roots Series artists for local students. American Roots Series artist Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience will also lead a week of community engagement activities during their residency. Virtual field trip artists Sonia De Los Santos and Kattam will introduce students to the sounds of Latin America and the rhythms of West Africa. These virtual field trips are open to public, private, and homeschool groups in Prince William County, the City of Manassas, and the City of Manassas Park. For information about how to register for virtual field trips, email Hylton@gmu.edu.

The many wonderful student opportunities presented by the Hylton’s Education Initiative, which is 100% funded by philanthropy, are only possible thanks to generous sponsors. This year, the Hylton Center is proud to welcome Amazon Web Services (AWS) as the Lead Sponsor for 2022-2023 Education Initiative performances and events:

“At AWS, we believe deeply in supporting meaningful local programs in the communities where we have a presence. The Hylton Center has made it a priority to offer rich artistic programming and Education Initiatives that are accessible to all community members. We’re delighted to help expand their efforts and encourage creativity, community, and innovation through art.”– Cornelia Robinson, Global Head of Inclusion and Outreach, AWS.

Through AWS’ extraordinary generosity, along with Dominion Energy, Lillian Ballard, The McNichols Family Foundation, and the Friends of the Hylton Center, the Hylton’s Education Initiative looks forward to a full and engaging season of national and international artists.
