Update from the Hylton Center

During the past several months, with our stages dark, the Hylton Performing Arts Center has held closely to our belief that the arts create community. We have missed seeing you in person, but we have been so grateful to spend time with you virtually through our Mason Arts at Home programming.

Meanwhile, we’ve been eagerly waiting to be able to unveil the 10th Anniversary Season. However, after much careful consideration in coordination with George Mason University, we have made the difficult decision to suspend our presentation of traditional, live, professional performances inside our spaces through the end of 2020. Current ticketholders for events scheduled in summer or fall 2020 will be contacted with ticket options as soon as information is available regarding either postponements or cancellations.

The Hylton Center prioritizes the safety of our patrons, artists, students, and staff. Beyond this, we are committed to presenting artistic experiences of the highest caliber. Growing uncertainty around the ability to ensure both of these priorities has led us to this decision to wait until 2021 to resume our typical series of performances at the Hylton.

Although the season will not begin this fall as we had originally envisioned, we are working with the artists who were supposed to grace our stages, in an effort to bring them back in the future. We are also pursuing creative opportunities for virtual programming, as well as exploring safe and artistically satisfying options for in-person programming for the remainder of 2020.

Join Us for a Virtual Conversation with the Hylton

We will continue to update you about what to expect from the Hylton in the coming months. In the meantime, please plan to join us for Moving Forward: A Conversation with the Hylton Center on June 24, when we will share more about this decision with you, and engage in a discussion of the state of the arts, answering your questions (whether submitted in advance or in real time) as we go.

Help us Move Forward

Coming together to create our community may look different in the coming months, but we remain deeply grateful for your ongoing support and patience as we carefully navigate this time together.  Though our stages are dark for the moment, we are hard at work in both the digital realm and in planning for a return to live performance as soon as it is safe and feasible.  So, your gift of any size will ensure that our stages and halls will be ready to welcome you, our audience, and our artists back with open arms as soon as we can. To support the Hylton Center, make your gift today.
