Celebrate Veterans and the Arts

Veterans Day Week at the Hylton Center offers free celebratory events for Veterans, Servicemembers, families, military caregivers, and the community.

Mark your calendars for Veterans Day Week at the Hylton Center, a series of free celebratory events around Veterans Day designed for Veterans, Servicemembers, families, military caregivers, and the community. The week begins with the photography exhibition Exploring Identity with Women Veterans (on view 10/29-12/7) in the Buchanan Partners Art Gallery, followed by the 5th annual Celebrating Veterans and the Arts at the Hylton Center (11/9). This free, family-friendly event from 1:30 – 4 p.m. includes light refreshments and features hands-on visual arts activities, a guitar workshop, and a songwriting presentation by military kids and teenagers. Prior to their evening concert, join us for an interactive afternoon panel discussion with The U.S. Army Band Pershing’s Own featuring:

LTC Derrick Shaw - Command Staff
SGM Tom Fowler - US Army Strings
MSG Dan Roberts - US Army Band Downrange

Later that evening, enjoy a free performance by The U.S. Army Band Pershing’s Own’s in “We Honor Them All,” (11/9) celebrating Veterans with a modern twist with The U.S. Army Band Downrange rocking out in front of their amazing orchestra at 7 p.m. in Merchant Hall. House opens at 6:30 p.m. and patrons with tickets will be seated in available seating on a first-come, first-served basis. At 6:50 p.m. patrons without tickets will be seated in any available seats.

The week culminates with an inspirational afternoon of music and poetry:  Heroes’ Voices National Poetry Contest Reading (10/10). All events are free and open to the public.
