MANASSAS, Va., Oct. 10, 2011 – Direct from Beijing, the National Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China will take the Merchant Hall stage at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 at 8 p.m. as part of its North American tour. This performance is family friendly and tickets are half price for youth through grade 12 when accompanied by an adult. A pre-performance discussion will be held one hour prior to the performance in the Hylton Center’s Buchanan Partners Art Gallery. Novant Health is the 2011-12 Season Sponsor of Hylton Presents at the Hylton Performing Arts Center.

The National Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China routinely combines dramatic folk arts with cultural Chinese roots, using such common household objects as tables, chairs, bowls, plates, ladders, poles and bicycles as props to create an acrobatic art wholly unique to the Chinese culture. Drawing on centuries of tradition, this Chinese cultural treasure is acclaimed for deftly demonstrating gasp-inducing flexibility, remarkable agility and extraordinary talent while performing daring physical feats to the accompaniment of traditional Chinese music.

This company was the first national performing arts troupe established by the government of the People’s Republic of China in 1950 and has since travelled to more than 40 countries throughout the world. Several of the company’s acts have won prestigious awards at such venues as the Cirque de Demain Festival in Paris and the Monte Carlo International Circus Festival. The company also owns and operates an institution in Beijing dedicated to training acrobats of all ages in this fascinating performance art.

Please Note: The National Acrobats of the People's Republic of China will also appear at George Mason University's Center for the Arts in Fairfax on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Please visit cfa.gmu.edu for more information about these performances.
