MANASSAS, Va., Sept. 29, 2011 – “Helium light and hilarious,” says The New York Times of this mesmerizing company that has enchanted audiences of all ages around the globe. Founded by pneumatic wizard Fred Garbo and Brazilian ballerina Daielma Santos, this unique ensemble combines physical comedy, dance, juggling and giant inflatable props in its clever and engaging performances that amaze and entertain children and adults alike. Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater Company takes the Merchant Hall stage at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 at 4 p.m. as part of the inaugural Hylton Family Series.

The show begins when a 10-foot cylinder slithers onto stage and implodes, and before long, the entire audience is playing catch with gigantic inflatable props that dance, shimmer, balloon, deflate and bounce in a rainbow of colors. Garbo and Santos both don inflatable costumes and the result is sheer comedy that leaves the audience marveling and howling.

A professional performer since 1974, Garbo has performed as Barkley the Dog on PBS’s “Sesame Street,” and was the chief juggler in the hit musical “Barnum” on Broadway. He has also performed in the Obie Award-winning “Foolsfire,” which toured Europe, Hong Kong and Australia after a successful Broadway run, and also appeared in the New York City Opera’s production of “Turnadot” and worked with the MOMIX Dance Company in Brazil. Garbo was also a recent recipient of the International Jugglers’ Association’s “Award of Excellence.”

Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Daielma Santos graduated from the Royal Academy of Dance in London, and has trained extensively in dance/choreography, mime and theater. She has been the principal dancer of the Opera Paulista II Company in Sao Paulo, and has performed with several companies in Brazil.
