  • April 23, 2017 at 7:00 pm

Merchant Hall

Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, Richard Thompson’s legendary career as a songwriter and performer spans nearly five decades. He made his recording debut in the 1960s as a co-founder of the groundbreaking British folk-rock band Fairport Convention. Thompson went on to release more than 40 albums that highlight his unique songwriting style and virtuosity as a guitarist with his most recent release titled Still (2015), an album of new music produced by Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy. As a prolific songwriter, Thompson’s compositions have been performed and recorded by stars such as Robert Plant, Elvis Costello, REM, Bonnie Raitt, and Los Lobos, among others. He has garnered numerous accolades including BBC’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 and an OBE (Order of the British Empire) personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II in 2011. The Americana Music Association also honored Thompson with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting in 2012.

This event will not have a Pre-Performance Discussion.
