The Hylton Center celebrates Cinco de Mayo by welcoming this spectacular artist and her band for a festive concert. “Stunning voice…a confident multicultural vision,” raves the Los Angeles Times about this dazzling Mexican-American singer who fuses unique interpretations of indigenous Mexican music and her own songs with blues, soul, jazz, and African sounds. Her marvelous vocal prowess and adventurous blending of genres have earned her numerous accolades in the last decade: a Latin Grammy Award®; appearances at Carnegie Hall and the Latino Inaugural Ball for President Obama; and a role in Julie Taymor’s Frida. She also composed an Academy Award-nominated song for the movie, which she performed at the ceremony, becoming the first Mexican artist to perform at the Oscars. The daughter of a Mexican singer and a Scottish-American art professor and filmmaker, Lila Downs combined her passion for music with her love of ancient culture to create an edgy and powerful sound bursting with international flair. “She has earned her supreme confidence and reinvigorated the place in Mexican music where popular and traditional sound collide.” (The Washington Post)

This festive concert is made complete with complimentary chips and salsa tasting.  Enjoy corn tortilla chips by Abuelita and Gunther's Gourmet salsa made possible by Opera House Gourmet.
