Ballet Folklórico de MéxicoMerchant Hall
Watch centuries of rich Mexican culture come to life as the folk dancers fill the stage, and take audiences on a journey that traces the evolution of Mexican dance from original indigenous peoples up through the present. This award-winning ensemble has garnered international acclaim because of its stunning technique, vibrant costumes, and awe-inspiring choreography. Amalia Hernández, celebrated dancer and choreographer, founded Ballet Folklórico de México 60 years ago to research, preserve and honor the richly diverse folkloric dance traditions of her country — a period spanning from the pre-Columbian era, through Spanish colonization, and into the Mexican Revolution. “Passionate…impeccable…and point of entry to the riches of a fabulous culture!” (Los Angeles Times)
