Veterans Day 2017 at the Hylton Performing Arts Center FREE

Family Friendly Event

Join us for an interactive day of celebration and arts experiences for Veterans, Servicemembers, their families, military caregivers, and the community.  This lively event kicks off its third year at the Hylton Center and features community-based resources, interactive music and visual art workshops, an exhibition of Veteran artwork, complimentary refreshments, and more. Free of charge to all.

Outdoors (Weather Contingency – Scene Shop)

“The Power of Dots” – A Hands-On Art Project led by Martin J. Cervantez and Friends - Explore your creative side with a Veterans Day art project!

Buchanan Partners Art Gallery

“War and Recovery” – Art Exhibition by Martin J. Cervantez, Master Sergeant, USA (Ret.)

1:00 Chamber Music by the Youth Orchestras of Prince William and String Quartet from the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra - Start out the afternoon by browsing artwork and community information tables, while enjoying beautiful chamber music.

2:00 “War and Recovery” Lecture Presentation by Martin J. Cervantez, Master Sergeant, USA (Ret.) - Learn more about the artist and his artwork, especially how his work speaks to his experience as a Veteran, artist, and storyteller.

3:00 “Instrument Petting Zoo” presented by the Potomac Arts Academy - Learn about different instruments through a hands-on, interactive experience!

2:00 Dominion Energy Veterans Guitar Workshop Presentation - Watch our guitar class perform some favorites - or, better yet, join us!  All levels of guitar playing experience welcome.  Bring your own guitar or borrow one of ours.

3:00 “Salute to Veterans” Pre-Performance Discussion by Bryan Kidd, USN, MUCF (Ret.) & Arranger-in-Residence, American Festival Pops Orchestra - An audience favorite!  Gain knowledge and insight about the concert you're about to enjoy and ask questions.

Community Organizations share information about resources, services, and support for Veterans, Servicemembers, their families, and military caregivers.

Daisy Troop 90042 leads “thank you” card-making project for distribution to local Veterans.

Merchant Hall

4:00 “Salute to Veterans” Concert by the American Festival Pops All-Stars, featuring Veteran musicians and guest artists Darden Purcell and Mason Jazz Voices, vocalist Jim Van Slyke, and 14 year-old tap-dancing talent Luke Spring. 

This celebration is followed by a patriotic concert at 4 p.m. by the American Festival Pops All-Stars, a family-friendly performance that is free to Veterans, Servicemembers, their families, and military caregivers. $15 general public.
